 ...a bit about Fundy

Fundy Nubblin is my current character in the weekly campaign I joined a few months ago, after my previous campaign group went on hiatus. He's a pretty good-natured goblin Gloom Stalker Ranger 5/ Rogue Inquisitive 5 who is pretty dialed in for ranged combat.

His backstory is honestly still gelling, but basically he's from a tribe of Eastern Goblins (much classier than the Western Goblins you're probably familiar with), whose tribe fought against an incursion of gnolls in their homeland. The invasion forced his tribe to work together with their former wood elf adversaries for mutual defense, with the goblins sharing their skills at trap-building and giant frog riding, while the elves taught the goblins archery and some nature magic.

Sadly, the cooperation wasn't enough, and Fundy was forced to flee West when the Gnolls overran his homeland and scattered his tribe. After wandering aimlessly, falling in a deep crevasse and hiding for a time from some monsters, he was stumbled upon by his current adventuring party, who took him in readily after he demonstrated his archery skills in a few encounters.

Fundy speaks with a ridiculous accent (a mix of Boris Badenov, Super Mario and Jim from Taxi), often struggling to find the word he needs and frequently just referring to "you know- the thingie!" (although when speaking goblin he sounds like an Oxford scholar).

Skills wise, I wanted him to really be focused on ranged weaponry, so I went with fighting style: archery, crossbow expert and sharpshooter. Insightful Fighting and Steady Aim make sure he can get sneak attack damage much of the time, while Dread Ambusher, Favored Foe and Fury of the Small help pile on bonus damage as well. So far Ranger, Rogue and Goblin have been a great combo- he can usually slip out of melee range, stay on the margins of the battle and pretty reliably dish out damage with impunity.

His Ranger spellcasting has come in handy a few times too, with a timely casting of rope trick helping the party avoid becoming a snack for a  Kingfissure Worm. He also offers just about everyone he meets a goodberry, which he thinks makes them instant friends.

This week it looks like we'll be chasing a rumor that Fundy's brother Thunkar made it out of their homeland as well, and might be holed up in a swamp nearby with some fellow frog-knights. Thunkar is actually the first goblin character I rolled up for the campaign, a Ranger/Cavalier wielding a trident from the back of a giant frog, which I honestly chickened out of playing because I didn't have my head around mounted combat. Assuming we find him and survive the journey, I might start switching back and forth from time to time.
